How do I add an Independent Contractor to my account?
For a service provider to be listed on an appointment with your business, they will need to be added as staff. So even if the provider is an independent contractor, adding them as staff is the way to go.
The first step, is to add the independent contractor as a staff member through the steps in one of the links below.

How do I limit what the independent contractor can access in my account?
Since the independent contractor is not an employee, you may not want them to have access to certain areas of the account. This can be managed by setting the new staff member's permissions through these steps:
What if the independent contractor wants to use their own Square account or other payment processor?
Only one Square or Stripe account can be connected to the business, however, the independent contractor can choose Other as the payment type when checking out in MassageBook. That way they can still use either their own Square account on their own mobile device, or any other payment processor they would like to use.
With these steps, you can view sales recorded by the independent contractor by following these steps:
- Click Sales in the blue banner at the top of your account.
- Click the Sales by Staff on the left side of the page.
This will show all sales recorded by a specific staff member.
If you would like to view only the sales marked as Other, you can follow these steps:
- Click Sales in the blue banner at the top of your account.
- Click Income by Payment Type on the left side of the page.
- Filter for Other payment type.
What if the independent contractor has their own MassageBook business profile?
Adding someone as staff to your business will not interfere with any other business profile that they have created. So they can still use their own business profile while being listed as a staff member with your business.
What if the independent contractor and I share a room but would like to have separate business profiles for booking and client management?
This can be a little tricky, as having separate business profiles while sharing a room can lead to double booking possibilities. The best way to manage this though, would be for you to add the independent contractor as staff to your business, and for the independent contractor to add you as staff to theirs.
Then you can each set the other as inactive so appointments cannot be booked within the business for that staff, meaning you cannot be booked within their profile and they cannot be booked within yours, but you would each have visibility to each other's schedule to prevent double booking.
To do so, once the independent contractor is added as staff you would follow these steps:
- Click Setup in the blue banner at the top of your account.
- Click Staff on the left side of the page.
- Uncheck the Active and Display Online boxes next to the independent contractor's name.
The independent contractor would do the same with your staff profile in their account. This way you can each see each other's schedules, but will not show up as available for booking. Finally, to ensure that the other staff member does not have an appointment during that time, you would need to check the business schedule of the other business prior to adding an appointment to your own schedule.
What if the independent contractor would like to participate in insurance billing?
If your business accepts health insurance and your contractor would like to do so as well, we highly recommend you discuss with a health insurance billing specialist how to best manage the situation.
